Can you tell us about yourself?

My name is Petra Teeuwsen. Originally I’m from Nijmegen, but I have been living in south Limburg for a while. My love for photography was born during my trip to Tibet, where I’ve shot everything on full-auto. To get more out of my pictures I took the part-time course at the Photo Academy in Venlo. Besides my work as a dental hygienist, I work as a photographer.

What do you specialise in?

My specialty is dance photography and portraits. I love to capture people and emotions to portray them in artistic images.

Do you have tips for photographers who want to focus on dance photography and portraits?

Being extremely alert and taking a good look are essential. A good image is based on a correct exposure, technique, composition and emotion. That one moment where everything seems to come together is unique and requires concentration. When capturing dancers, it is important to have knowledge of the dance. The position of the body and the expression on the face make or break a picture.

Which equipment do you use?

I use professional as well as equipment of Nikon. Besides I work with TTL triggers like Yongnuo 622 and I use  (but not for every photo!) my softbox and flash umbrella.

Where can we find more of your work?
